The purpose of the Campus Music app is to help international students reduce the difficulty of learning English and enrich their life in Australia. Experience-Centered Design should affect people's lives in ways that are socially, politically, and personally meaningful (Wright and McCarthy, 2010). Besides, experienced-centered design support positive experience and the potential for richer lives(McCarthy and Wright,2007). Our project is to design a music App to help better international students live in Australia. We hope to help international students learn English through music to reduce the boredom of learning English. Based on this, we also expect international students to enrich their social circle and make friends through this software while learning English to reduce loneliness. In general, we aim to make some international students' unpleasant experiences to be more meaningful and create a desirable experience for them.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a significant shift in the way people live and work. Remote learning and working have become the new norm for many individuals, which has drastically altered their daily routines. With classes and work now conducted online, people are spending more time sitting in front of their laptops or tablets than ever before. The lack of social interaction and physical activity that comes with this sedentary lifestyle has led to a rise in physical and mental health issues. Some common physical health issues that people are facing include dry eyes, headaches, back pain, and poor posture. Additionally, the lack of physical activity has led to weight gain and other health-related problems. Mental health issues are also on the rise due to the isolation and stress that come with this new way of life. People are feeling lonely, anxious, and unmotivated.
We all love to hear music, but wouldn't it be great if we could learn something from that? For a solution, we created a music application through which users can learn English while enjoying the music and socialise with other fellow students by sharing their playlists and recommending songs to others that will be helpful for others to learn English. The application starts by asking the user a few basic English language questions to determine their level and their native language. Based on the user's answers, the application creates a personalized playlist of songs divided into different regions like American, Aussie, and British music, each with its own accent and slang. As the user listens to the songs, the lyrics appear on the screen, and certain words are highlighted as recommended for learning. If the user doesn't know the meaning of a word, they can click on it to see its meaning, usage, and even save it for later in a notebook. The application also has a translation feature where a user can hover over a word to see it translated into their regional language for better understanding.
Music today is one of the application's main features in which a user is asked a few questions at the start-up of the application. These questions are basic English language questions that will test which level a user is at right now and will be asked what their native language is based on these questions. Using an algorithm, a personal playlist will be created for the user. The playlist will have various song recommendations, divided into regions like American music, Aussie music and British music since every region has different ascent and slangs which make them tricker and hard to understand. Once you start listing the song, lyrics appears on the screen and in that lyric few words are highlighted which system recommends learning, if the user doesn’t know the meaning of the word he can click on the word and a pop will appear where user can see the meaning of the word, usage, and even share and it and save it for later in the notebook. Another feature if user don’t know the meaning of the word user can hover over it can word will be translated into there reginal language for better understanding of the meaning of word. We have also included analysis feature in which user can check his progress how many songs he has listened till now from the playlist, how many new words has user discovered and how many word he has learned, in successful completion of the progress users will be awarded virtual medals. Vocabulary Vocabulary is divided in reginal basis as every region has there own accent and slangs which make them default to understand for a person who has just started leaning new language American music, Aussie music, British music and other can we added.
