Indigenous Australians possess a rich cultural heritage yet face significant economic and social challenges. Many lack access to platforms that both empower their businesses and celebrate their traditions. To bridge this gap, our project introduces "Gecko Marketplace" — a digital platform designed to promote Indigenous culture, provide educational resources, and support economic empowerment through accessible and immersive experiences.
Indigenous Australians face persistent economic and social challenges, including limited access to business opportunities, resources, and platforms that effectively showcase and promote their cultural heritage. Despite their invaluable traditional knowledge and cultural assets, Indigenous communities often struggle to find channels for economic empowerment and cultural preservation. Current online marketplaces lack sufficient features tailored to Indigenous knowledge-sharing and product promotion, creating barriers for Indigenous sellers and limiting educational resources for buyers.
To address these issues, our project aims to develop a dynamic digital marketplace and cultural hub, "Gecko Marketplace." This platform is designed to promote Indigenous culture, provide educational resources, and support economic empowerment by offering a unique, user-friendly space where Indigenous products and stories can be shared with a broader audience.
Key Features: Cultural Product Listings: A marketplace for Indigenous artisans to showcase and sell their products, with detailed descriptions that highlight the cultural significance of each item. Educational Resources: A repository offering insights into Indigenous culture, history, and traditional knowledge, accessible to both buyers and the broader public. User Profiles: Personalized profiles for both sellers and buyers, enabling a community-focused experience with opportunities for interaction and feedback. Interactive Learning Tools: Features such as "Learn" modules, quizzes, and stories to enhance users’ understanding of Indigenous traditions and practices. Seamless Shopping Experience: Easy-to-use navigation with functionalities like product browsing, cart management, and a streamlined checkout process.
